With the gradual reopening of the tourism industry in Cebu, the municipal government of Badian in the province’s southwest coast is enticing the public to visit a view deck situated at about 1,640 feet above sea level.
In a statement, Badian tourism officer Donald Villarin said the Badian Highlands view deck offers a panoramic view of the Tañon Strait and the fiery sunsets in western Cebu.
"You can have the panoramic view of Tanon Strait and the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental. It is also a good point where to take sunrise and sunset photos," he said.
Badian Highlands opened on July 10, 2020. Entrance is free at the moment.
With Cebu now under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the tourism industry in the province is allowed to resume operations at 50% capacity.
Villarin said the new tourist attraction is a “no-build zone" to ensure an unobstructed view.
"We opened this site for sightseeing and to those who want to walk, jog, bike, and joy-ride with a view," he said.
Badian Highlands is located about 13 kilometers from the national highway. Visitors will have to traverse the villages of Poblacion, Taytay, Basak, Talayong, and Dobdob to reach it.
Badian suspended all tourism activities on March 13 to prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Cebu Province went into lockdown on March 30 and closed its borders with Cebu City, where infections are highest.
Badian town, a three-hour drive from Cebu City, is known for Kawasan Falls, Kadungaw Peak, Osmeña Peak, Lambug Beach, canyoneering, zipline, and floating cottages. (Ventures Cebu)
