Cebu province had the third highest number of construction projects in the third quarter of 2018 based on the building permits issued, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The agency said in a statement that there were 2,432 construction projects in Cebu from July to September 2018, or 5.77% of the 42,111 total constructions reported nationwide. This means that about six in 100 constructions were in Cebu.
Another province in Central Visayas that registered one of the top 10 highest number of constructions was Bohol, with 1,638 constructions or 3.9% of the total.
The top 10 provinces in terms of the number of construction projects accounted for 49.4%, or about half, of the total projects.
The top 10 are:
1. Cavite - 4,367 constructions (10.4%)
2. Batangas - 2,677 (6.4%)
3. Cebu - 2,432 (5.8%)
4. Bulacan - 1,953 (4.6%)
5. Laguna - 1,750 (4.2%)
6. Fourth District of NCR - 1,690 (4.0%)
7. Negros Oriental - 1,689 (4.0%)
8. Bohol - 1,638 (3.9%)
9. Iloilo - 1,330 (3.2%)
10. Pampanga - 1,291 (3.1%)
BY REGION
The robust construction activities in Cebu and Bohol made Central Visayas the second highest region in terms of construction activities.
The PSA said there were 5,815 constructions in Central Visayas, or 13.8% of the total. These construction activities have a combined project cost of P15.8 billion, the third highest among the regions and 15% of the total estimated project cost.
Calabarzon - Calamba, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon - or Region 4-A logged the highest number of construction activities for the period, with 10,752 constructions, or 25.5% of the total.
The top five regions in terms of the number of constructions accounted for 65% of the total constructions nationwide, the PSA said. These are:
1. Calabarzon - 10,752 constructions (25.5%)
2. Central Visayas - 5,815 (13.8%)
3. Central Luzon - 4,749 (11.3%)
4. National Capital Region (NCR) - 3,331 (7.9%)
5. Western Visayas - 2,913 (6.9%)
The PSA said the total number of constructions in the third quarter went up by 16.7% to 42,111 from the 36,076 constructions recorded in the same quarter in 2017.
Residential buildings accounted for the bulk, with 30,638 projects or 16.8% higher than the 26,227 projects in the same period in 2017.
Non-residential constructions reached 5,983, or 14.4% higher than the 5,231 projects last year. Non-residential constructions include institutional buildings (1,330), commercial buildings (3,630) and agricultural buildings (249).
There were 1,447 projects involving additions to existing structures, an increase of 23% from the 1,176 projects in the same period of 2017. Alterations and repairs of existing structures increased by 17.5 percent to 4,043 from 3,442 recorded during the previous year. (Ventures Cebu)
