A new program aimed at helping microenterprises recover from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic’s economic fallout was launched by the government and the private sector on September 20, 2020.
The SUGBO Negosyo program will provide grants of up to P50,000 worth of raw materials or equipment to aspiring entrepreneurs or microenterprises that seek to reboot their business operations
Applications for the grants may be submitted from Oct. 1 to 31, 2020, unless extended.
The application forms can be downloaded from the SUGBO Negosyo official Facebook page or from the official Facebook pages of Provincial Board members.
The forms are also available at the city/municipal Social Welfare & Development Office and at the barangay halls.
Provincial Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco said an applicant must be a registered voter of the Province of Cebu and must be at least 18 years old.
The applicant may be a new or existing microentrepreneur who has been severely affected by the pandemic or wants to boost or repurpose his or her business.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Secretary Asteria C. Caberte said the Cebu Provincial Government will finance the program while the DTI will provide technical assistance and facilitate business name registration.
Members of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) will mentor the beneficiaries.
Caberte said the launching of the program was timely because around 90,000 businesses have shut down due to the pandemic.
During the launching, Vice Governor Hilario Davide III said assistance will be provided under three categories, namely, Negosyong Padayon, Produktong Sugboanon and Mga Serbisyo ug Ginagmayng Patigayon.
Under the Negosyong Padayon category, established microenterprises that need recovery assistance and enhancement will receive P50,000 worth of goods, equipment, or raw materials.
Under the Produktong Sugboanon category, aspiring microentrepreneurs who want to engage in manufacturing or processing of products will receive P20,000 worth of goods, equipment, or raw materials.
In the last category, Mga Serbisyo ug Ginagmayng Patigayon, microentrepreneurs engaged in trading or services will receive P10,000 worth of goods, equipment, or raw materials.
“We will not be giving them (beneficiaries) the fish, but the fishing rod. Ang Sugbo Negosyo ang muhatag ug kahayag sa kaugmaon sa ato-ang mga igsuong Sugboanon,” said Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia. (Ventures Cebu)
