After about 30 years of production operations in the Philippines, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) said it will close its manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna effective March 2020.
The company will, however, continue providing sales and after-sales services.
In a statement posted on its website on February 22, 2020, the company said it considered the need for efficient allocation and distribution of resources to meet the demand in the Philippines for reasonably priced and good quality products.
“As such, after consideration of optimization efforts in the production operations in Asia and Oceania region, Honda decided to close the manufacturing operations of HCPI,” the company stated.
“Honda will continue providing highly attractive products to its customers in the Philippines and continue contributing to the local society, which has been an ongoing effort for the last 50 years since Honda was established in the Philippines,” it added.
The manufacturing plant in Laguna, located inside the Laguna Technopark, produces passenger cars BR-V and City.
The facility was established in November 1990 and started production in 1992. It has a workforce of about 650 people.
The Philippine subsidiary is 74.2% owned by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. from Japan. AC Industrial Technology Holdings Inc. and Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. each has a stake of 12.9%. (Ventures Cebu)
