The Central Visayas wage board is conducting a survey among employers and household service workers (kasambahay) in the region as part of their review of the wage structure for the kasambahay.
Johson G. Cañete, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment and chairman of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, said Wage Order No. ROVII-D.W. 01 which took effect two years ago is under review.
“We started conducting the survey since the last quarter of 2018 and with that, we hope to collect substantial data regarding the status of the household helpers in the region,” he said in a statement.
The survey is being conducted in Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental. Public consultations are also being planned, with the first hearing to be held in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
The survey will determine the number of household helpers receiving the minimum wage and those who are receiving social welfare benefits such as the Social Security System (SSS), Philhealth and Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-Ibig).
At present, the minimum wage for household helpers rendering services in the cities and all first class municipalities in Central Visayas is P3,000 a month.
Those working in other municipalities get at least P2,500 a month.
Under Republic Act No. 10361, or the Kasambahay Law, household service workers must be able to avail and enjoy other mandatory benefits such as the 13th month pay; five days service incentive leave; and one rest day per week on top of their minimum wage.
Kasambahays also have the right to avail the Solo Parent Leave (RA 8972); Special Leave Benefit for Woman under the Magna Carta for Women (RA 9710); and Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) Leave (RA 9262). (Ventures Cebu)
