This year’s Lumba’g Laag sa Sugbo 2019 showcased more than 15 tourist destinations and culinary attractions in Cebu’s northern towns as well as a few in the west coast.
At the end of the three-day race, which is patterned after the popular US reality television show Amazing Race, three teams emerged as winners: Team Hunat Energy Bar, champion with a cash prize of P100,000; Team Reborn, first runner-up with a prize of P60,000; and Team Golden Prince, which came in as second runner-up with a prize of P30,000.
Team Hunat Energy Bar finished in 17 hours and 48 minutes while Team Reborn finished in 19 hours and 3 minutes, and Team Golden Prince logged 19 hours and 17 minutes.
A total of 20 teams participated in the race, which took them to tourist attractions in the towns of Liloan, Compostela, Carmen, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Medellin, San Remegio, and Daanbantayan as well as to the city of Bogo on July 21 to 23, 2019.
In the west, the teams had to undertake tasks in the towns of Asturias and Balamban.
“Lumba’g Laag sa Sugbo 2019 indeed lived up to its promise of discovering new destinations, exploring the culture and heritage as well as the food of the different northern municipalities,” said this year’s event chairperson Edilberto Mendoza.
“Our 20 competing teams had the feel and experience of all these plus the new friendships established. With all these, I can say that the event was truly a big success as we were able to attain our objective of bringing the best of Cebu to the rest of the world,” he added.
Among the destinations highlighted during the race were the Liloan Lighthouse, Cebu Safari Park in Carmen, Japanese Surrender Monument in Tabogon, Miraculous Medal Shrine in Bogo, San Remegio’s public beach, and Molobolo Cold Spring in Asturias.
Culinary tasks included making the famous queseo of Compostela, making Pintos in Bogo, drying fish at the Pasil sandbar in Gibitngil Island in Medellin, and cooking the bingka or rice cake in Asturias.
Among the resorts featured were the Funtastic Island in Gibitngil, Golden Sands and Kandaya Resort in Daanbantayan, and Bantayan Beach Resort in Medellin.
The race started at SM Consolacion mall and ended at Rafi’s Kool Camp in Balamban.
Other teams that joined the race were Kapinoy, RDAK, PADS, CCLEX A, Intellicare, Aprubado, Start Something, CCLEX B, OPASCOR, Ridehero, Treasure Island Industrial Paints, Rural Bank of Catmon, Air Asia All Stars, AFOS, Total Health Check Diagnostics Corp., and CATOS Worldwide.
Lumba’g Laag sa Sugbo, now on its third year, is one of the highlights of the Cebu Business Month, an annual event organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the entire month of June. (Ventures Cebu)
