Just a little over a year after opening the four-star Maayo Hotel in Mandaue City and the Moroccan-inspired Maayo Argao boutique resort in southern Cebu, the Primary Group of Builders goes into an aggressive expansion mode by acquiring more properties for redevelopment while rationalizing its brand portfolio.
This year, Primary Group unit Maayo Hotels Corporation will open Maayo San Remigio, the former Cebu Paradise Resort that has been redeveloped into a Caribbean-inspired resort in the northern town of San Remigio.
Maayo Hotels brand communications manager Elvira “Bing” Torre said Maayo San Remigio will likely open in May or June.
The resort had planned to open in time for this year’s Holy Week, but it did not have water supply yet at the time.
Maayo Hotels has also recently acquired properties in Badian town in southwestern Cebu and in Cordova town on Mactan Island.
Maayo resorts in the neighboring island of Bohol and in Negros Oriental are also in the pipeline.
In Badian, Maayo Hotels will transform the Terra Manna camping grounds into a Greek or Mediterranean-inspired resort that will hopefully also open this year, Torre said.
The Cordova resort will take time because it was acquired only very recently, she added.
At present, Maayo Hotels is pushing its four-star hotel in Mandaue City, which is located next to Maayo Medical Clinic, a medical tourism facility that offers comprehensive preventive and curative healthcare services. It is accredited by the Department of Health.
The hotel, with 229 rooms, is rated No. 1 by online booking site Trip Advisor among the 14 hotels in Mandaue City.
It is about 20 points shy of being classified as a five-star accommodation facility, Torre said.
Maayo Argao, which opened in April 2018, is a fast growing boutique resort at the heart of the southern town of Argao.
Torre said it is becoming popular as a stopover among travelers in the south, as an accommodation facility for pilgrims in Simala in the adjacent town of Sibonga, or as a weekend getaway destination.
The resort is also a popular venue for weddings, given its gazebo and courtyard with fountain by the sea.
The resort has, in fact, a bridal suite for P19,000 per night.
Maayo Argao also hosts corporate chill out parties and other functions. Its function room can seat 200 to 250 persons at one time and may be partitioned into two rooms each capable of holding 100 persons.
Other facilities are an infinity pool, pool bar and Belvedere Restaurant, all with great views of the sea. Near its standard rooms, priced at about P4,000 per night, is Asul Cafe.
The resort also has villas for families or large groups, P11,000 for a three-bedroom affair and P14,000 for four bedrooms.
Meanwhile, Maayo Hotels is rationalizing its brand portfolio.
Torre said they will retain just the Maayo brand for the hotel and all resorts, with minor changes in each logo to reflect the character of each facility.
All facilities will, however, provide its brand of efficient services and good food. (Ventures Cebu)
