Golden ABC, Inc., the company behind global brand Penshoppe, has shipped out the first batch of face masks to certain hospitals across the National Capital Region as its contribution to efforts to combat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The company, which originated in Cebu, has temporarily shut down all stores in the Philippines - Penshoppe, ForMe, OXGN, Regatta, Memo - as well as direct-selling subsidiary Red Logo in line with the enhanced community quarantine being imposed in the entire Luzon and in key cities and provinces such as Cebu and Davao.

It earlier said in a statement that it has allocated P200 million to help its employees, the community surrounding its Quezon City office and distribution center, and the Filipino community at large.

The face masks are among the personal protective equipment (PPE) that Golden ABC pledged to provide healthcare teams at 29 hospitals in Metro Manila.

The company and its vendors committed to donate over 25,000 surgical masks to personnel in the front lines of the battle against COVID-19.

The company’s donation to the Tanging Yaman Foundation is also earmarked for the purchase of N95 face masks, nitrile gloves, face shields and hazardous materials (hazmat) suits.

On top of these, Golden ABC said it is donating to the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation’s Project Ugnayan “to provide food relief and aid for our brothers, sisters and healthcare workers, who nee it most during these dark times”.

For its employees, the company has made work-from-home arrangements since March 17, released the 13th month pay and committed to provide full pay continuance of all employees until April 12, when the original quarantine in Luzon was scheduled to end. Vacation and sick leave credits of the employees remain intact.

To help its host community in Quezon City, the company committed to donate rice to its neighbors in Barangay Apolonio Samson and to over 100 families at the GABC Gawad Kalinga-PWD Village in Escopa.

Golden ABC is among the big corporations that have responded to the government’s call for help in the fight against COVID-19.

As of April 10, 2020, the respiratory disease has killed 221 people in the Philippines. A total of 4,195 persons have contracted the SARS-CoV-2, or novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. Of this number, 140 have recovered from the disease. (Ventures Cebu)
