Instead of technology startups pitching their newly developed products and services, entrepreneurs and investors will present the problems and challenges that they are facing as well as potential growth areas and their priorities for investment.

This will happen during a reverse pitching session, one of four features that make this year’s Cebu Business Month (CBM 2019) celebration unique, according to chairperson Lilu I. Aliño.

The reverse pitching session is envisioned to address specific problems being encountered by members of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

In a regular pitching session, startups are normally given 5 to 10 minutes to pitch to prospective investors their ideas, which could be developed into technology products and services that will boost business productivity and competitiveness, or simply new ways of delivering existing technology-based services.

This time, startups will listen to members of Cebu’s business community as they present their challenges, growth opportunities and investment priorities to generate new ideas for products and services.

The session will take place during the Entrepreneurs’ Summit, one of the highlights of CBM 2019. The summit will take place on June 12-14, 2019 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.

“We will have a breakout (session) where entrepreneurs and investors will be pitching to tech startups their problems and challenge areas, growth opportunities and investment priorities for idea generation,” Aliño said.

The reverse pitching session is one of the events that make this year’s CBM celebration different.

Aliño said they will also launch a B2B inclusive growth app to help CCCI members embrace digital transformation.

She also noted that the Innovation Expo this year is run by millennial who have come up with innovative ideas in bringing generations together.

There will be a call to action for the tourism sector, “Innovate or die”.

“This should drive the tourism sector to embrace innovation and technology,” she said.

This year’s Tourism Innovation Forum will also feature show-and-tell sessions as stakeholders share their success stories in film, adventure, faith-based, sports, adventure, food and farm tourism.

The forum will discuss current trends in tourism and ways to ensure sustainability as well as promote responsible tourism.
