Texas-based Iteris, Inc. has been selected to develop an intelligent transportation system (ITS) master plan for Metro Cebu, the company announced recently.
The technical assistance project, funded by a $686,053 grant from the US Trade and Development Agency to the Philippines' Department of Transportation, aims to draw up a master plan that will identify ITS solutions to improve traffic management, reduce vehicle emissions, enhance road safety, and advance efficiencies in cargo and passenger movements in Metro Cebu, according to Iteris.
Iteris is a publicly traded smart mobility infrastructure management services company with a market capitalization of about $196 million.
The company said it will lead the ITS activities, including the assessment of current conditions, recommendation of appropriate ITS technologies, review of potential suppliers in the US, and creation of the master plan that will cover Cebu City and 12 other local government units comprising Metro Cebu.
The USTDA, which announced the grant to the DoTr in 2021, said separately that traffic issues to be assessed under the project may include traffic control, parking, emergency notification, licensing, and payment systems.
"The (technical assistance project) will identify and rank solutions to these issues, as well as define the technical platforms, infrastructure upgrades, network services, and other systems needed for project implementation," the agency said.
The project is in line with the DoTr's plan to develop an integrated intermodal transport system for Metro Cebu.
