Several airlines globally, including Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air, have cancelled flights after Airbus issued an advisory requiring a software update for its A320 family of aircraft.

Airbus said intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls.

The aircraft manufacturer said a "significant"number of affected aircraft that are currently in service will be affected by this precautionary recall.

A Reuters reports said 6,000 jets globally would be affected, with airlines from the US and Europe down to New Zealand ordering flight cancellations.

The fix primarily involves reverting to earlier software, Reuters said, citing a bulletin issued to airlines.
