SM Prime Holdings, Inc.'s hospitality arm, SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., said it is investing ₱3.6 billion in SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu, which is targeted to open in Q4 of 2026.
The 6-level facility will provide more than 21,000 square meters of leasable space, bringing the SMX convention portfolio's total event space to over 80,000 square meters across 10 venues, the company said.
"After recent events, we hope SMX Seaside Cebu will play a meaningful role in revitalizing the province's tourism and business landscape," said Peggy Angeles, executive vice president of SM Hotels, apparently referring to the Sept. 30 earthquake and Nov. 4 storm that claimed lives and caused severe damage to affected communities in Cebu.
The company said it has pre-booked events at the facility, including Philconstruct Cebu in November 2026 and Wofex Visayas in April 2027.
SMX Cebu is part of SM Prime's 26-hèctare South Coast City development at the South Road Properties. The project, located near the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway, includes the SM Seaside City Arena, which is also under construction. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/Ventures Cebu)
