Minimum wage in Central Visayas to increase January 5

ADJUSTMENTS ranging from P18 to P48 in the minimum daily wage in Central Visayas region will take effect on January 5, 2020, according to the National Wages and Productivity Commission.


The commission posted on its official Facebook account on December 27, 2019 a copy of Wage Order No. ROVII-22.





Under this wage order, which the Central Visayas Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board approved on November 26, 2019, workers in the non-agriculture sector in Class A cities and municipalities will get the highest new minimum wage of P404 in the region after the P18 adjustment.



Agricultural workers and those employed in establishments with less than 10 workers will receive at least P394 after an increase of P26 and P18, respectively.


Class A cities and municipalities are Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga, Compostela, Consolacion, Cordova, Liloan, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.


The same wage order grants an increase of P18 to P28 to non-agriculture workers and those employed in establishments with less than 10 employees, or micro enterprises, in Class B cities and towns.


Non-agriculture workers in these areas will get at least P366 while those working for small establishments will be entitled to at least P361.


Agricultural workers in Class B areas will also receive P361 after an increase of P33 to P48.

Class B areas are Bais, Bayawan, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, and Tanjay in Negros Oriental; Bogo and Toledo in Cebu; and Tagbilaran City in Bohol.


Workers in the non-agriculture sector in Class C municipalities will get P356 a day, after an increase ranging from P8 to P33.


Agricultural workers and employees of micro enterprises in Class C towns will be paid a minimum of P351 daily.


Agricultural workers are entitled to an an increase of P23 to P38 while workers in micro enterprises will get an adjustment of P8 to P33. (Ventures Cebu)
