J Centre Mall to close after 11 years

J Centre Mall

J Centre Mall will shut down permanently by the end of January 2023, after more than 11 years in operation.

The mall was the first venture of Everjust Realty Development Corp., owned by businessman Justin S. Uy, president of food processing company Profood International Corp. in Mandaue City. Uy is also the president of Philippine BXT Corp., owner and operator of JPark Island Resort and Waterpark on Mactan Island.

Everjust Realty also owns the 46,296 square meter (sqm) property leased to property giant SM Prime Holdings, Inc. for its second mall in Cebu, SM Consolacion.

A mall tenant said SM Prime would take over J Centre, but SM has yet to make an announcement. It's also unclear whether the deal includes the J Tower Residences, a 40-story residential condominium with direct access to the mall.

SM operates SaveMore supermarket, the anchor tenant of J Centre Mall.

All mall tenants were given until Jan. 31, 2023 to vacate. J Centre's social media account also announced the mall's closure.

Construction of J Centre began in December 2009; the mall opened on November 11, 2011.
