Megawide Construction Corp. bested six other finalists to be named the United Neon’s Most Innovative Company of the Year.
The award was given during the 12th Asia CEO Awards virtual ceremony on Oct. 12, 2021. The Asia CEO Awards honors individuals and organizations which made positive contributions to the development of the country’s economic capabilities and international reputation across the globe.
“It is indeed with great honor that our organization has been chosen as the winner of this prestigious award. We are thankful to be recognized for our social innovation initiatives, which aim to provide first-world services to Filipinos," Megawide chairman Edgar Saavedra said in a statement Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.
"In the future, we hope to continue shaping and influencing the mindsets of our countrymen in using improved infrastructure to drive faster economic advancement and development,” he added.
Megawide, together with GMR Infrastructure of India, built the Terminal 2 international passenger building of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport under the government’s Private Public Partnership (PPP) program.
Their joint venture company, GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp., is also renovating Terminal 1 as part of the P17.5-billion airport modernization project.
For more than two decades, the company has also undertaken engineering and construction projects, including other PPP projects such as the construction of 10,000 public classrooms for the Department of Education.
Other projects are the first-of-its-kind Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and the construction of the Clark International Airport’s new passenger terminal building, which was completed ahead of schedule, despite the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We intend to sustain this momentum to help fast track the Philippines’ economic recovery, through more infrastructure projects and transit-oriented developments that support people mobility and commercial activity. We believe that these segments will be essential in rebuilding the economy and engineering a First World Philippines. We hope to be an inspiration in strengthening the collaboration between the public and private sectors,” Saavedra said.
Nominations for the Asia CEO Awards 2021 were open to all Philippine-based organizations and individuals and accepted from April 30, 2021 to August 16, 2021 free of charge. This year’s edition drew a total of 514 entrants across all categories, the highest since the event debuted in 2009.
The evaluation process underwent strict scrutiny from the award-giving body’s official knowledge partner, PwC Philippines, and a board of judges, who are excluded from nominating their own candidates. (Ventures Cebu)
